Library support services and facilities to help you succeed in your studies
The Library can help you find and reference information to support your studies, use UWA IT systems such as the Learning Management System (LMS), print documents and a whole lot more. There are almost 5,000 study spaces available across our libraries to choose from.

Orientation
We can help you set up and get connected to the UWA systems that you will be depending on throughout your course, and guide you to finding your Unit Readings and information for your first assignments.
O-Week checklist
Things I really need to do before the end of O-Week:
- Set up services which can support successful study, use your own device at UWA and utilise UWA systems and software. Check out our IT and printing support page.
- Log in to LMS (Learning Management System).
- Check out our Library Workshops calendar.
Week 1 checklist
Need to get started on your Week 1 readings? Look for a Unit Readings link in the LMS menu in your unit. Unit Readings provides access to course materials identified by Unit Coordinators as being important for your units.
Look for the ACE and CARS units in your LMS and complete them early in the semester. They will help you to understand the UWA academic environment, cover basic research skills and give you a great head start on your assignments.
- Check for Unit Readings link in LMS menu in each unit.
- Complete the ACE unit.
- Complete the CARS unit.
Essential online units
Communication and Research Skills (CARS), Academic Conduct Essentials (ACE) and Indigenous Studies Essentials (ISE) are essential online units. Complete these early in your studies for a great head start to your assignments. Look for them in your LMS. You can go back to these units at any time for a refresher.

Finding information
Unit Readings
Available via your unit in the LMS (Learning Management System), Unit Readings contains the essential materials for your units including links to journal articles, book chapters, ebooks, reports, and videos, as well as books and other items held in the High Demand section or in the main Collections in the University Library.
OneSearch and other databases
This search tool is like Google for UWA Library. Use it to search UWA collections including millions of online books, journals, articles, reviews, films, documentaries and more. OneSearch will connect you to the full text sources we’ve provided to support your studies. Sign in with your Uni-ID to save favourites and return to them.
The Library has selected the major databases for the subject areas at UWA. Use the Databases link in the top ribbon in OneSearch to find a database specialising in your subject area.
Managing what you find
In addition to using Favourites in OneSearch, the EndNote or Mendeley tools can help manage your readings so you can easily refer back to them and reference them in your assignments and essays.
Borrowing
You can borrow items from any of our libraries using your Campus Card. The High Demand Collection is a section of our print collection containing copies of your textbooks and required readings.
Spaces and facilities
A range of study zones means you can study with friends, with a coffee, with a view, or focus alone and in silence – the choice is yours.
Our libraries offer a range of facilities, including PCs, power points, charging stations, Wi-Fi, printing, copying, scanning, group study rooms, digital screens and whiteboards for collaboration, a parents room, universal access bathrooms, filtered hot and cold water, microwaves and more.

Uni-ID
Uni-ID is your UWA network account. Use your Uni-ID password and your student number to access a range of online UWA services such as student email, Unifi, the Learning Management System (LMS), studentConnect and much more.Webmail
Webmail
Along with a Pheme account, you are automatically assigned a UWA email address when you enrol. It is important to use this email address as the University sends your official correspondence to it.Unifi
Unifi
Unifi is UWA’s Wi-Fi network. It works in all libraries and in lots of other places on campus. - Printing, copying and scanning

UWA students can use any of the 100+ student-allocated printers located throughout the UWA libraries and general purpose computer labs across faculties.
You will need to have value on a Campus Card to print or copy at Library print stations. You can add value via autoloaders or online.

The Class Allocation System (CAS) is how you put together your timetable at UWA.LMS (Learning Management System)
LMS
UWA's Learning Management System uses Blackboard software. The LMS is a fully integrated web-based teaching and learning environment which supports the online delivery and administration of resources, communication, collaboration and assessment. It is a secure, online, password-protected system available to all current UWA staff and students anywhere, anytime.
