Using the Library – Visitors and alumni
Visitors are welcome at any of the five UWA libraries.
Visitors may access our large collection of books, journals and other materials, including a selection of electronic resources, during our extensive opening hours. Library staff are available to help with any enquiries.
You’ll find our libraries have many comfortable spaces to read or work, as well as convenient facilities including cafés at the Reid and Marshall libraries.
If you're interested in borrowing from our large collection of specialised research materials, various types of membership options are available.
Members of the University Library can borrow and request more than 900,000 items, while a UWA Graduates membership includes online access to a selection of research databases.
Staff and students from other universities
Staff and students from Australian and New Zealand universities may apply for free reciprocal membership, which allows borrowing. Proof of enrolment/employment from your home university is essential. Apply in person at any UWA library. Curtin, ECU, Murdoch or Notre Dame applicants can apply online below. Allow two working days for the library to process your registration. Note that membership is valid until the 28th February of the year following application.
Official visitors to UWA
Visiting staff and students may apply for Visitor membership, which allows borrowing and remote access to online resources.
Former UWA staff and retirees
Former UWA staff (with at least 15 years’ work experience at UWA) and UWA retirees can apply for free Affiliate library membership, which allows borrowing.
All UWA graduates, and UWA students who are eligible to graduate, may apply for free alumni library membership, which allows borrowing. UWA Alumni membership also includes online access to a selection of online research databases to support ongoing scholarly interests and professional development. Please note that membership does not include access to UWA's wi-fi.
Any member of the public who is interested in UWA’s specialised research materials may apply for paid Community membership, which includes borrowing rights from UWA libraries. Members of the public are welcome to visit UWA libraries to use our research databases in the library for free, licences permitting (remote access to databases is not available to Community members). Membership does not include access to UWA's wi-fi. Community membership fees are listed below.
Eligible concession card holders (Commonwealth Health Care Card, Seniors Health Card, Pensioner Concession Card and WA State Seniors Card) are entitled to a 50 per cent discount on membership rates. Health Care Card holders are eligible for this discount on 6-month and 12-month memberships only.
