NAIDOC Week: 50 Years of Deadly
UWA Library is celebrating NAIDOC Week: 50 Years of Deadly this July. Join us from the 5-12 July to recognise and celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
As part of our NAIDOC Week celebrations, UWA Library is:
- Showcasing our Western Australian Aboriginal Collection, highlighting the rich histories, cultures and voices of Aboriginal communities across the state. Visit the exhibition on Level 1 of the Reid Library.
- Inviting Students to find hidden book tokens in our Library spaces! Each token can be redeemed at our Library information desks for a free UWA Publishing book relating to Indigenous voices and culture.
- Introducing Reid Library's new Kaartidjin Bidi Learning Trail, co-created by two UWA students Alicia Roe and Nakita Humes. The initial trial covers five story points featuring Noongar naming where you can access an audio story from our students about their experiences on UWA campus, the natural landscape, and the specifically the Reid Library. Alicia is a Nyungar, Yamatji, Yawuru woman who has been studying Criminology and Indigenous History at UWA for the duration of the project. Nakita is a Wiilman, Whadjuk, Ballardong woman who was studying at UWA at the beginning of the project. The Trail is part of an overarching cultural narrative of pathways and developed in consultation with Dr Richard Walley OAM.
Updates to the Beasley Law Library Opening Hours
Beasley Law Library is changing its opening hours to take effect from Monday 29 June, 2026.
During semester break:
- Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
- Saturday to Sunday, closed
During semester:
- Monday to Friday, 7am to 10pm
- Saturday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm
This is a change from the previous 24/7 access that was available to UWA students with a campus card. Our locations at Reid Library and J. Robin Warren Library will continue to provide after hours access.
These new opening hours will minimise security risks across our campuses as UWA Security will be able to concentrate their patrols at Reid Library on the Crawley campus. It will contribute to UWA’s sustainability objectives by saving building energy consumption including air conditioning and lighting after hours. The new hours are based on previous years’ data on use of the Law Library and reflect 96% of our total usage within the building.
WA Women's Hall of Fame Exhibition in Reid Library
The WA Women's Hall of Fame touring photographic exhibition will be installed on the Ground Floor of the Reid Library from Thursday 30 April to Wednesday 27 May. The exhibition features a collection of sixteen portraits of the 2026 inductees and accompanying biographical information.
Four of the featured 2026 inductees are UWA staff:
- Emeritus Professor Lynette Abbott, the first female Professor in agriculture at UWA who is recognised for her outstanding contribution to the Western Australian community in soil biota education, research and restoration.
- Dr Danuta Sampson who is recognised for her research on ophthalmic imaging and data analysis methods used to improve the way serious eye diseases are addressed in Western Australia.
- Associate Professor Roz Walker who was worked with Aboriginal people in education for 40 years.
- Professor Archa Fox who specialises in the field of molecular cell biology, focusing on the role of RNA in cell behaviour.
The WA Women's Hall of Fame was established in 2011 to recognise and celebrate the achievements of Western Australian women past, present and future. Inductees represent a diverse range of educational, organisational and cultural backgrounds.
UWA staff and students and the general public are encouraged to visit Reid Library over the next month to view the exhibition and celebrate the 2026 inductees and their achievements.
EDFAA Library changes
EDFAA Library is reopening 13 April with some building works continuing due to the Nedlands Campus uplift program which is upgrading teaching spaces across buildings on the campus. This uplift program is separate to the Student Accommodation building project.
Available now:
- The library will be open 8am-6pm Monday-Thursday, 8am-4pm Friday.
- The south side of the floor is still under construction and hoarding is in place.
- During the construction period, the toilets will be unavailable on the basement level. The closest available toilets are on the ground floor (G16, G17, and G18).
- Some of the EDFAA collections have been relocated to Reid Library Level 2. The location of materials will be indicated in OneSearch. The remainder of the collection has been consolidated on the west side of the floor.
- Four refurbished Group Study Rooms available.
- Individual study seats on the north, east and central location of the floor.
- Access to self-service facilities, including self-check machine, and print/copy/scan machines.
When the construction is complete, the floor will feature:
- Continued access to Student Lockers and auto-loader machine.
- Accessibility improvements, with access via the Education Building lift during operating hours.
- A shared kitchen space available to all students.
As part of the Nedlands Campus uplift, the south side of the floor will be repurposed as a new teaching facility administered by the Department of Nursing. At this stage we expect building works to complete mid-year. There may be occasional noise disruptions however we will endeavour to keep these to a minimum. Thank you for your patience during this period.
Reid Library Memory Book
To commemorate the refurbishment of the first floor of the Reid Library, we invited current and former UWA staff and students to send in their best memories of the building. We received a range of colourful memories about the Library and these have now been compiled in our Memory Book available here. The Memory Book also features a range of historical photos capturing Reid throughout the years. Thank you to those who contributes their stories.
