In 2024, UWA introduced a micro-credential program called UWA Starter. This innovative program enables senior secondary students to earn university-level micro-credentials at UWA, which can be stacked for credit toward one unit of an undergraduate degree in most UWA bachelor’s programs. Several micro-credentials in the program are also endorsed by SCSA and can contribute towards the completion of a student's WACE requirements. The program is accessible to all Year 11 and 12 students, regardless of their educational pathway. Schools can partner with the program to enjoy various benefits, including reduced fees for students.

Frequently asked questions
Below are some common questions asked by teachers and career advisers. Or you can search all FAQs or ask a question via askUWA.Prerequisites and recommended subjects
English is a prerequisite to tertiary study at UWA, and some courses also require a certain level of mathematics. For all other courses where a prerequisite is indicated, students can still enrol if the subject has not been completed, but they will need to complete bridging unit(s) within their degree.
LOTE and mathematics bonus
For those studying a language other than English (LOTE), a 10% bonus is applied on the scaled score for the student’s best LOTE subject. Likewise for those studying mathematics, a 10% bonus is applied on the scaled score for Mathematics Methods and a separate bonus for Mathematics Specialist. If a student is completing both subjects, they are eligible for both bonuses. If any of these subjects are not in the student’s top four ATAR outcomes (only four are used to calculate the ATAR), the student is still eligible for the 10% bonus.
Programs for high-achieving students
We offer numerous initiatives, such as particular scholarships, prizes and courses, to celebrate high-achieving students.
Scholarships designed for high-achieving students include the UWA Winthrop Scholarship, UWA Lawrence Scholarship, UWA Hackett Scholarships, UWA Sports Excellence Scholarship, UWA Fogarty Foundation Scholarship and UWA Principal’s Citizenship Award, among others.
Prizes are awarded annually to recognise students’ outstanding academic achievements. About 450 awards are offered by different areas of the University and are presented to recipients at a ceremony. Most prizes are a monetary value, totalling more than $400,000.
Our courses range in ATAR entry requirements from 75 to those with higher ATAR requirements such as our Bachelor of Advanced Computer Science (Honours) (92), Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) (98), Bachelor of Science (Frontier Physics) and Master of Physics (96), Bachelor of Automation and Robotics (88), and Bachelor of Economics and Master of Economics (90), and more.
UWA's Early Offer program
UWA’s Early Offer program provides eligible Year 12 students with the option to apply to UWA earlier in the year than the standard tertiary application process. It has been designed to help ease the stress on Year 12 students. Knowing that there is a place available for them in their chosen course in advance, can provide students with a clearer direction and help them set manageable goals throughout their final year. Plus, getting the administrative processes underway earlier in the year means they will be connected with UWA and set up for a smoother transition into their first year of university.
