Edward De Courcy Clarke Earth Science Museum

The Edward de Courcy Clarke Earth Science Museum is home to over a quarter of a million specimens. As part of the School of Earth and Oceans, the museum has welcomed thousands of visitors since the 1960s. It showcases Earth Science through diverse displays, engaging students, researchers, and the wider community.

Museum Displays

The Museum Gallery contains several themed displays highlighting various elements of Earth Sciences from the scale of our solar system to microscopic rock-forming organisms.

Museum Collections

The museum houses over 183,000 registered specimens of minerals, rocks, fossils, and meteorites from around the world. These collections reflect over a century of research by the University’s Geology Department since 1913. Ongoing research from the School of Earth and Oceans continues to expand the collection.

 

Researchers and visitors interested in accessing the collections can request the use of shared workspaces or organise a loan of material to their institution. All appointments must be scheduled in advance by submitting an enquiry form
