Adult swimming lessons

The UWA Aquatic Centre provides specialised adult lessons and private swimming lessons for beginner adult swimmers. Our heated pools and passionate staff are ready to develop your swimming skills, improve your technique and build your fitness.

  • Water awareness program

    The Water Awareness Program encourages confidence in swimming and water safety activities, educating you on water safety and safe swim skills. At the end of the program, you will have a greater understanding of your own water safety and how to help others. Each session is 45 minutes in duration. This program is designed as a 6-week short course, providing students with the knowledge and ability to be safer in various aquatic environments. UWA students and community members will have classes on Tuesdays and UWA Colleges will have classes on Thursdays.

    • UWA Students: $60 for 6 weeks

  • Private lessons

    Private lessons are the recommended starting point for anyone who is brand new to swimming, or anyone who is not yet confident in the water.

    Private lessons are tailored to suit your individual ability and learning objectives, helping you master basic water confidence and swimming skills before progressing to group lessons. They are a great option for those that require additional support, who would prefer private tuition, or who would like to work on a specific skill that falls outside the curriculum.

    Students are able to commence lessons at any time for a minimum of 4 lessons. For the best progress, we recommend booking a term of 10-12 weeks.

    Private lessons are offered at a rate of $60 per lesson, with perpetual and term-based payment options available.

  • Beginner lessons

    Beginner lessons are suitable for anyone new to swimming or who has limited experience around water. This level focuses on water familiarisation, confidence in the water, developing horizontal body position and introductory freestyle breathing technique. Classes are held in a small group setting, with a maximum of 5 participants per class.

    Students are able to commence lessons at any time for a minimum of 4 lessons. For the best progress, we recommend booking a term of 10-12 weeks.

    • Wednesday 6:45-7:15pm

    Lessons are offered at a rate of $25 per lesson, with perpetual and term-based payment options available.
    UWA students are able to access a concession rate of $22.50 per lesson.

  • Intermediate lessons

    Intermediate lessons are suitable for anyone who is comfortable in the water and has already developed a stable body position and kick. These classes focus on the introduction and development of freestyle and backstroke while maintaining horizontal body position. This level also introduces breaststroke kick and continues to develop confidence in deep water. Classes are held in a small group setting, with a maximum of 4 participants per class.

    Students are able to commence lessons at any time for a minimum of 4 lessons. For the best progress, we recommend booking a term of 10-12 weeks.

    • Tuesday 10:30-11am
    • Wednesday 6:15-6:45pm
    • Thursday 10:30-11am

  • Advanced lessons
    Advanced lessons are suitable for swimmers who have basic technique in freestyle and backstroke. This level refines the freestyle and backstroke strokes while building up endurance over longer distances. In this level, swimmers also develop their breaststroke with correct timing. Classes are held in a small group setting, with a maximum of 5 participants per class.

    Students are able to commence lessons at any time for a minimum of 4 lessons. For the best progress, we recommend booking a term of 10-12 weeks.
