Spirit of Play
UWA Social Sport is a competition designed to provide a social, fun, safe, and inclusive environment for everyone to enjoy sport. Inappropriate behaviour is not tolerated including verbal or physical abuse, unsporting behaviour, rough play, intimidation, and intoxication. All participants are expected to adhere to the UWA Code of Conduct.
To reduce harm to themselves or others, UWA Sport has a Zero Tolerance for players participating in games while intoxicated. Suspected impaired or intoxicated players may be asked to leave the court by UWA Sport staff. If it is suspected that multiple players are intoxicated, the team will be asked to leave the court and a forfeit will be registered for the team. If spectators are considered intoxicated and their intoxication is believed to be affecting the spirit or safety of the game, security may be called. Incidents involving intoxication will be reported to the university. All students and university officers should familiarise themselves with the UWA Alcohol and Other Drugs Policy.
-
Forfeits
Team forfeits must be communicated to the UWA Sport Reception on 6488 2286, or at [email protected], prior to 1pm on the day of the competition. Forfeits and penalties are outlined in the program’s Terms & Conditions and apply to all teams and participants. A forfeit will be incurred should a team be unable to field the required number or ratio of players as outlined in sport specific rules. No shows will be treated as forfeits.
If any participants have outstanding balances after the Competition has ended they will be contacted and given seven (7) days to settle balances.
Forfeits will be recorded as a loss on the results tally and the team who forfeited will receive zero points. The team that got forfeited against will receive 3 points. For those teams who are forfeited against, UWA Sport will provide you with a refund equivalent to the team's weekly game fee. The refund will be processed at the end of the competition.
-
Grading and Fixturing
Grading ensures teams are correctly placed into the right divisions to ensure a fun and enjoyable environment for all. Teams will be moved up or down divisions based on predetermined criteria. Once grading has concluded, divisions are confirmed. Grading dates are displayed at sport.uwa.edu.au. Division requests are made when a team registers. Divisions cannot be changed unless extenuating circumstances occur.
Games are fixtured at four different times per night: 6:15pm, 7:00pm, 8:00pm and 8:45pm.
UWA Sport endeavours to share time fixtures evenly across all teams. This may, however, differ during season finals. If you arrive after the first quarter, your game will be recorded as a forfeit and a fee will apply.
-
Reporting
We acknowledge that reporting inappropriate behaviour can be a difficult, and that a person must feel safe and confident that any report they make will be treated appropriately. UWA’s policy and procedures are designed to put the wellbeing and needs of the person who has experienced or is experiencing inappropriate behaviour first, and to listen and act with their permission unless we have a duty of care obligation to take protective action.
Incidents requiring immediate response and witnessed by a UWA Sport staff will be reported and UWA security may be called. We encourage any person to report any incident by, or toward, a member of the University community.
Reports can be made to UWA Sport directly by emailing [email protected] or through UWA Integrity and Standards. Anonymous reports can be made through the UWA website.

Scoresheets
The scoresheet is the official record for the game result, score and players in each team. Before you start, teams must write all players names on the scoresheet. Players must be listed on the scoresheet three times throughout the season to eligible for finals. If a player is playing their first game for your team, at the bottom of the page include their name, email address and their staff/student number if applicable. A player that arrives after the first quarter or half may not be eligible to play.
Basketball, Netball, Soccer, Touch, Ultimate, Volleyball teams are required to self-score. The team listed first on the fixture is a required to score. A nominee from the opposing team should sit next to the scorer.
Scores are tallied. The quarter total on the right-hand side of the scoresheet is used to total the number of points in the quarter (refer the picture above). It is not the accumulative score of the game (as shown is incorrect on the right). Please put the final score at the end of the game in the total box. The addition of all quarters/halves should equal the total.
At the end of the game both teams agree on the result by signing the score sheet. Disputes over scoring can be directed to the Sports Lead on the night for resolution. Challenges after the scoresheet has been signed by both teams may not be disputed.
-
Withdrawals
If you need to withdraw from the Competition for any reason this must be communicated with the UWA Sport by calling reception on 6488 2286 or emailing [email protected]. Finals
The last two weeks of the season are reserved for finals. At the conclusion of the round fixtures, all teams will be assigned finals fixtures regardless of their final position on the ladder. Fixtures for finals are released after 48 hours of the regular season. Team captains are notified when finals are confirmed.
Final fixtures are calculated based on the number of points received during the regular season. Grading games do not count towards final ladder results.
Semifinals and grand finals are listed first on the website as the top fixtures for the division. Please note they may not be in time order (see example below)
Please ensure you are reading fixtures carefully to ensure you arrive in time for your game.
For players to qualify to play in finals, they are required to have played at least 3 games and be listed on the scoresheet within that season. Teams may contest the eligibility of the player during finals. If the player is confirmed ineligible by UWA Sport after the match, the team will incur a forfeit loss.
Finals formats are chosen based on the number of teams within the division. Final rounds are calculated using the following:
- 1st Semi Final: 1st vs 4th
- 2nd Semi Final: 2nd vs 3rd
- Grand Final: Winner of 1st and 2nd Semi Final
- 5th – 10th placed teams; final fixtures will vary based on the number of teams in the division.
