Indigenous Nationals

A week-long multisport competition for Indigenous student athletes

Indigenous Nationals is an event created to provide the opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student athletes from universities across Australia to compete in an annual week-long multi-sport competition.

The competition aims to not only celebrate the rich sporting culture of Indigenous Australia, but to also acknowledge the heritage and history of the participating student-athletes. For more information on the competition and fixtures, please visit UniSport Australia.

The Maaliwah are the most successful university team to date, winning the competition seven time and being placed runner-up four times.

In 2026, Indigenous Nationals will be hosted by the University of Newcastle in New South Wales on Awabakal and Worimi Country from 29 June - 3 July.
