About us
From discovery to clinical practice
The Translational Research and Clinical Excellence Centre is a multidisciplinary initiative within UWA’s School of Health and Clinical Sciences. TRACE brings together researchers, clinicians, educators, health services and community partners to accelerate the translation of evidence, scientific discoveries and innovative technologies into patient-centred healthcare.
The Centre provides a coordinated platform for clinically relevant research across disciplines including nursing, pharmacy, optometry, podiatric medicine, social work, rural health and health professions education. By connecting research with real-world healthcare priorities, TRACE strengthens research capacity, supports clinical innovation, improves the quality and accessibility of services, and contributes to better patient and population health outcomes.
What we do
TRACE fosters multidisciplinary translational research that addresses real-world healthcare challenges and strengthens connections between evidence, practice and policy. The Centre supports coordinated research programs, competitive funding applications, collaborative projects and partnerships with healthcare providers, industry, government and community organisations.
It also builds capability among higher degree by research students, clinicians, early-career researchers and clinician-researchers through mentoring, training and professional development. Seminars, workshops and conferences supports knowledge exchange and visibility. TRACE promotes inclusive and culturally responsive research design, with attention to diverse communities and underserved populations. Its work is measured through research outputs, partnerships, funding, training activity and the translation of findings into clinical practice, health services and policy.
Research focus
Multidisciplinary clinical innovation
TRACE supports research that improves prevention, diagnosis, treatment and health-service delivery. The Centre connects expertise across health disciplines and external partners to develop, evaluate and translate clinically relevant innovations at scale.
Research has little value unless it improves lives. TRACE exists to ensure that scientific discoveries are translated into practical, patient-centred solutions that strengthen healthcare systems and improve outcomes for individuals and communities.Khyber Alam

Our approach
TRACE works across five connected priorities:
- Collaboration: bring together researchers, clinicians, educators, health services, industry, government and communities.
- Translation: move evidence and innovation into clinical practice, healthcare policy and service improvement.
- Clinical excellence: focus on research that improves quality, accessibility, effectiveness and patient-centred care.
- Capability: support HDR students, early-career researchers and clinicians through mentoring, training and collaborative supervision.
- Inclusion and impact: embed culturally responsive approaches, engage diverse communities and evaluate meaningful health outcomes.
This coordinated approach supports larger multidisciplinary programs, stronger external partnerships and a visible pipeline from research discovery to practical healthcare impact.
Partner with TRACE
TRACE welcomes enquiries from researchers, clinicians, health services, government, industry, community organisations and prospective research students interested in collaborative, clinically relevant research and translation.
