New technology to make brain surgery safer

A biopsy needle that can help surgeons identify and avoid blood vessels in the brain during surgery has undergone initial tests in humans by a research team from UWA, The University of Adelaide and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

A new study led by The University of Western Australia has found many homeless people are trapped in a ‘revolving hospital door’, often not accessing medical care until they are very sick or in crisis. If discharged back to homelessness, the cycle continues, and at Christmas there will be patients in hospital with no home to go to.

A research project carried out by The University of Western Australia on a BHP subsea oil and gas pipeline off the north-west coast of Australia has found the pipeline has two to three times more the commercial value of fish than surrounding areas in deep waters.
