Turn your service into a recognised degree at UWA.
If you’re transitioning from the Australian Defence Force or building your civilian career, you can bring your skills, discipline and leadership into your next chapter with confidence.
The Veteran Access Pathway (VAP) is designed to help you enter university with clarity, connection and purpose.
Whether you want to retrain, upskill or start something new, you’ll study in an environment that recognises what you already bring and helps you build what comes next.
VAP supports current and ex‑serving Australian Defence Force members to successfully transition into study at UWA.
Funded through the Australian Government’s Veteran Recognition of Prior Learning – Tertiary Support grant, it makes university entry clearer, more supported and more accessible for veterans.
VAP is designed with veterans in mind, recognising the strengths, experience and discipline developed through ADF service and how these translate into academic success.
At UWA, veteran students can choose from a wide range of degrees that align with service, leadership and making a meaningful contribution to the community. Whether your goal is to build on existing experience or step into a new field, you’ll find study options designed to prepare you for life beyond university.
If you’re a current or former ADF member and interested in studying at UWA as a VAP student, we’d like to hear from you.

Whether you’re preparing for your first degree, changing direction mid‑career, or returning to study after service, UWA is committed to supporting your next step.
Veterans have multiple ways to gain entry to UWA, depending on your experience and qualifications:
We’re here to help! If you need advice on choosing a course or need help with your application, contact us on 131 UWA (131 892), or visit AskUWA
Gaining entry to UWA is just the first step. Once you’ve entered your degree through one of the pathways above, you may also be eligible to have your prior learning recognised through unspecified credit.
If you choose not to apply for credit, that’s supported too. Many veterans value learning alongside their cohort and building strong academic foundations from the ground up. To find out if your experience qualifies, visit AskUWA
As a UWA student, you’ll have access to:
For a limited time, new UWA VAP students will receive a free V-FIT All Access + Swim membership from UWA Sport.
