Career opportunities
As a graduate of this course, you will be able to work in government and independent schools, both nationally and internationally. This course will enable you to teach two secondary school (years 7–12) subjects such as Music Studies, English and Literary Studies, History, Political Science and International Relations, Indonesian and Italian. Your degree could also open up opportunities within government agencies, not-for-profit organisations or community services.

Admission requirements
Online personal statement
As part of applying for entry to this course, you are required to submit an online personal statement demonstrating you have the necessary personal characteristics to become a successful educator.

English Competency
This course has a higher English Language Competency (ELC) requirement in accordance with the requirements of the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia. An English bridging course is not regarded as evidence of English Language Competence.
ELC for this course can be met by:
- a final year 12 school grade of C or scaled mark of 50 in English ATAR or Literature ATAR or English as an Additional Language/Dialect ATAR or equivalent from Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, Canada, the United Kingdom, or the United States of America
OR
- a valid IELTS Academic overall score of at least 7.5, a minimum score of 7.0 in the Reading and Writing bands, and a minimum score of 8.0 in the Listening and Speaking bands
OR
- a valid Pearson Test of English (PTE) (Academic) overall score of at least 75 and no sub-score less than 70
OR
- a valid Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) overall grade of B or above, with a score of 'exceptional' for listening and speaking, and at least 'good' for reading and writing

If you’re a Year 12 student studying a WACE course at a WA high school or a pathway program, you are already automatically registered with TISC. - Select your preferences
You can choose up to six preferences when you apply through TISC. You should list your preferences in order from your most desired course onwards; this way you’ll have plenty of options to get into UWA. - Lodging your application
You’re almost there! After answering a few questions, you’ll need to make a declaration about your application. - Application processing fee

Course structure
In your first three years, you will complete the Bachelor of Arts, in addition to four units of postgraduate study. In your final year, you'll complete the remaining units in the Master of Teaching (Secondary).

You'll learn to
- Build a strong grounding in two disciplines, such as Music and English and Literary Studies, which will provide a strong foundation for secondary school teaching through to year 12.
- Become an expert in your field, with practical classroom experience and learning from practitioner experts.
- Develop teaching skills as you spend at least 13 weeks in two different school environments in your final year. This will provide you with the skills and experience to form effective working relationships.
- Develop a strong understanding of two curriculum areas and build skills in planning, delivering and assessing learning.
