Staff training and resources
All UWA staff complete the training program Creating a Safe, Inclusive and Respectful Workplace annually.
Other training and resources available includes:
- Inclusion at UWA (developed by SBS Core Inclusion, Pride in Diversity, and the Public Sector Commission), which covers core inclusion, cultural awareness, disability inclusion, gender equity, LGBTIQA+ inclusion, cultural diversity and neurodiversity inclusion
- Staff have free access to Pride in Diversity workshops and webinars, including Ally training, LGBTQ+ awareness, gender, trans and gender diverse awareness and LGBTQ+ HR and recruitment.
- Staff have free access to Diversity Council Australia training, covering topics including building inclusion at work, diversity and inclusion fundamentals, and unconscious bias.
- The University’s inclusive language guide is a useful resource for inclusive language.
Inclusive learning and teaching
At UWA, we aim to foster equitable access to education and ensure that all students, regardless of their backgrounds or abilities, have the opportunity to thrive. Teaching staff are encouraged to adopt a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) approach. This means offering flexible formats, considering diverse needs and removing barriers before they arise.
Staff can learn more about inclusive learning and join the UWA UDL-IDEAL Community of Practice (CoP) to connect with colleagues and share inclusive teaching practice.
Student training and resources
Our students can sign up for Ally training or Step Up Bystander Training, which explores the importance of being an ethical bystander to create a safe and supportive UWA community, and the Respectful Relationships online module. Workshops on responding to a disclosure of gender-based violence or sexual harm are also available.
