Supporting high-quality research supervision is a priority at The University of Western Australia. Our supervisor training program is designed to equip academic staff—at all career stages—with the knowledge, skills, and resources to guide graduate research candidates effectively and confidently. The program also fosters a culture of continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and collaboration across our broad community of supervisors.

How we support supervisors

  • Training and development

    We provide induction for new supervisors, the Professional Supervision in Practice course for supervisors working towards Level 2, regular webinars on key supervision topics, and tailored face-to-face training for schools.

  • Navigation and guidance

    We help supervisors and staff navigate relevant policies, rules, guidelines, handouts, tools, and resources so they know where to find information and how to apply it.

  • Advice and practical support

    We answer questions, provide practical advice, and help supervisors or schools work through common supervision issues, role expectations, process questions, and training needs.
