Emerging Engineers Competition 2024

Emerging Engineers Competition

Registrations for the 2024 Emerging Engineers Competition are now open.

Hosted by OceanWorks and UWA Girls+ in Engineering, this year's theme is an open challenge in engineering design, that encompass a number of specialisations including civil; electrical and electronic; and environmental engineering.

The competition is open to female and non-binary students currently enrolled in Years 2-10 in schools across Western Australia or in equivalent studies in a home-school group that is registered with Department of Education in Western Australia.

Supported by a site visit to UWA's Perth campus to launch the competition, students will have the opportunity to connect with experts in a range of STEM fields, experience world-class research facilities and talk to UWA academics and industry representatives to gain an insight to this year's theme, ahead of embarking on their research.

Participating students will be introduced to engineering research and development in a real-world context. Students will follow the engineering design process and criteria, to research and develop an innovative design to address the topic of powering a low carbon footprint house in 2040.

This hands-on, problem-solving experience, will see participants develop transferable skills such as:

  • Critical and creative thinking
  • Communication
  • Independent research
  • Project management
  • Teamwork

Further competition details including teacher and student registration, competition timeline and how to register for the site visit can be found in the 2024 Emerging Engineers manual, available to download on the website below.
