Under the Banner of the UWA Grand Challenges, the SDG Activation week aims to unify and activate UWA, its People and Place around shared values and common purpose. Using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a framework.
The SDG Activation Week aims to bring together a diverse group of people from the UWA community to highlight the amazing contributions our UWA community is making towards addressing 4 of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

- Reduced Inequalities, and
- Climate Action
The aim of this activation week is to amplify the positive contributions being made within our UWA community to address Grand Challenges through the SDG framework. Below are some ways you can get involved in the week or learn more about the four SDGs.

Conserve to Serve
Encouraging students and staff to reduce, reuse and recycle by keeping their coffee cups and containers out of landfill by using keep cups and their own containers.

Health Promotion Unit - StepUp bystander training
This workshop explores the importance of being an ethical bystander to create a safe and supportive UWA community. The practical 2.5-hour session will: Cover the reasons why we often don't intervene in problem situations to support others. Explore the pros and cons of helping. Explore the practical use of the Step Up Action Plan to safely help others or call out disrespectful behaviour.

HI Social Innovation Hackathon
The Hello Initiative Social Innovation Hackathon will deliver an experiential learning opportunity for students and staff interested in the application of innovation methodologies to design social change projects. Using the Sandford University model of Human-Centred Design Thinking (HCDT), participants will be guided through a 5-stage process to understand a social challenge, ideate potential solutions, identify key assumptions and build a prototype ready for testing in the real world. No innovation or social design experience is required- just bring an open mind and a curiosity to uncover new solutions to wicked problems.

Energy smart campus webinar
UWA is on track to becoming an energy neutral campus. In this webinar Dr Geraldine Tan, UWA Manager Energy and Sustainability and Dr Jason Hamer, Founder, Darta, will outline progress to date on the Energy Smart Campus initiative and launch the UWA Sustainable Campus dashboard. Find out how you can get involved in this initiative which utilises the University as a ‘living laboratory’.

UWA - IDEAL CoP: Utilise UDL in Assessments
As part of UWA's SDG Activation wek 2022, we acknowledge our role as a CoP activating several of the Sustainable Development Goals including 10 - Reduced Inequalities and 4 - Quality Education. Ensuring inclusive and equitable education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Come down to the Hemsley Learning Suite at the Reid Library for our first F2F CoP meeting and learn how to leverage Echo360 to design summative assessments that are inclusive, accessible and equitable, hear from UniAccess about an exciting trial happening in the Science Labs, and have a go at participating in ‘Story Circles’ to meaningfully tap into diversity as part of formative assessment! Use ‘Story Circles’ in your professional spheres as icebreakers too.
