Project Description

Satellite remote sensing techniques can be applied to map coastal benthic habitats and bathymetry. The accuracy and repeatability of satellite benthic and bathymetric mapping depends on having a good understanding of the reflectance of the atmosphere, sea-surface, water column and seabed. This project will assist in the development of a novel SplashDrone (https://www.swellpro.com/waterproof-splash-drone.html) that can land on the water surface and is equipped with a bespoke measurement package to obtain in situ training and validation data for remote-sensing algorithm development. The student(s) will assist in the development and integration of the microcontroller and sensor data-acquisition system and field testing of the system in the Swan River.
