Pharmacist Immunisation Certification - PHCYM417
This micro-credential provides pharmacists registered with the Pharmacy Board of Australia the clinical competence to practice as a pharmacist immunisation provider for approved vaccines in line with WA legislation. It is a WA Health approved training course based on the National Immunisation Education Framework for Health Professionals to ensure a high quality immunisation education program. It will attract 50 Group 2 self-directed CPD credits.
This course is open to all eligible Pharmacists across Australia, however you will need to confirm with your own jurisdiction if the training is recognised.
Upon successful completion, you’ll receive:
- One UWA PD Point - stackable for unspecified academic credit in award courses
- A Certificate of Achievement
- A UWA Plus Professional Development Transcript, listing all successfully completed micro-credentials

Who should study this course
This course is designed exclusively to benefit Pharmacists registered with the Pharmacy Board of Australia looking to expand their scope of practice and provide a public health service to the community.

How does it work?
The course has four components:
1) Online self paced learning and assessment to provide the core knowledge of immunisation and vaccination for relevant vaccines;
2) Online workshop to learn and practice injection techniques (Typically available on the third Wednesday of each month via the online booking system).
3) Clinical competency assessment to safely and appropriately administer approved vaccines. This is undertaken at an accredited healthcare facility that you organise locally under the supervision of a qualified injection provider in conjunction with a UWA-assessor online. (Typically this will be booked on the same day as the online workshop using the online booking system).
4) In addition to taking part in this micro-credential, pharmacists will need to show evidence of the following criteria before a final certificate is awarded:
- Submit evidence within the allocated time frame, of external completion of current:
- Current First Aid certificate (equivalent to HLTAID011 Provide First Adi, typically valid for 3 years from a registered training organisation.
- Current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (equivalent to HLTAID009 Provide CPR, typically current for 12 months, may be delivered with first aid) from a registered training organisation.
- Anaphylaxis e-training course for pharmacists (provided by the Australasia Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA) (suggested typically valid for 2 years);
- Pharmacist registrations by the PBA without any registration conditions of relevance to safe vaccination.
NB: Essential course requirements include: teams enabled device suitable for video conference; Australian postal address for receiving injection consumables, access to complete assessment with an approved qualified injection provider and in an accredited healthcare facility (eg: hospital, aged care facility, GP practice, community pharmacy). The resource packs will be sent out once a month.
