Ms Merle Smith has donated fund to The University of Western Australia ('the University') to provide a scholarship to encourage and assist high achieving students enrolled in a Master of Biotechnology or Master of Clinical Pathology to undertake a research project in the area of clinical biochemistry.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, an applicant must be enrolled, or eligible to enrol—
(a) full-time unless the selection body is satisfied that there are exceptional circumstances1 which preclude full-time enrolment;
(b) in research project units2 intending to undertake a research project focusing on physiological or disease pathways that utilises a biochemical test using a biofluid or tissues from human or animal model to study physiological or disease pathways; and
(c) in the—
(i) Master of Biomedical Science (71520) specialising in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology;
(ii) in the Master of Clinical Pathology (92510) specialising in Clinical Biochemistry; or
(iii) in the Master of Biotechnology (71580).
Relevant research project units are—
• MSCI5560; MSCI5561; MSCI5562; MSCI5563 for Master of Biomedical Science.
• PATH5113; PATH5114; PATH5115; PATH5116 for Clinical Pathology
• SCIE5571; SCIE5572; SCIE5573; SCIE5574 for Master of Biotechnology
