Admission Requirements

(1) To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have—
(a) a Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification*, as recognised by UWA; and either:
(b) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent;
or
(c) at least two years professional experience in a relevant occupation; or
(2) completed a Graduate Certificate in Commerce at UWA.
*Applicants who have a Bachelor's Degree with a major in accounting, or an equivalent qualification, are not eligible for admission.

Ranking and Selection Process

Where relevant, admission will be awarded to the highest ranked applicants or applicants selected based on the relevant requirements.

English competency

English is the language of instruction and assessment at UWA and you will need to meet the English language requirements of the University to be eligible for a place.

Minimum overall IELTS score of 7.0, with a minimum of 6.5 in reading and writing.

Course details

The Master of Professional Accounting provides training in the technical aspects of the preparation of accounting data; develops your skills in the application of accounting information to solve problems and make decisions; and develops the important professional skills such as communication and critical thinking. You'll be able to complete the professional study requirements of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) qualification as part of this degree.

Students enrolled in the Master of Professional Accounting at UWA are able to complete the professional study requirements of the Chartered Accountants (CA) qualification as part of their degree, setting students apart in the job market.

While most graduates complete their CA qualifications while working in their first job, the embedded CA Program ensures students can complete all the academic requirements (including CA exams) before starting work, improving their career opportunities.

This course includes a Chartered Accountants Capstone unit (ACCT5705) that integrates knowledge from the technical units and skills from practical experience in developing the professional competence required to become a Chartered Accountant. While the unit requires candidates to apply theory and current knowledge, the focus is on the development of competencies that candidates will need to function effectively in the professional environment.

The unit is based on the analysis and evaluation of business problems. These may include accounting and finance issues, ethics, corporate governance, corporate social responsibility and sustainability reporting.
