Held: On care and collections

This exhibition is a response to works in the Cruthers Collection of Women’s Art by NSW-based artist Michele Elliot, guided by her ethics of care and ideas around social responsibility and connection.

Community is core to Elliot’s practice, an approach that began in 2017 with a residency at Tender Funerals in Port Kembla. She worked with families to support them in finding creative rituals, making wrapping cloths for mortuary care and facilitating a Sewing Circle.
