Study Tours 

If a student group is looking to experience UWA while improving English language skills and immersing in Australian culture, a short-term study tour could be the perfect opportunity.
For more than 20 years , UWA CELT has delivered high-quality Study Tours for international universities, high schools, corporate organisations, and government agencies. Designed for student groups seeking an immersive introduction to UWA, Study Tours combine academic learning, English language development and Australian cultural engagement. We offer three Study Tour formats, allowing partners to choose the experience that best suits their students and learning goals.

Closed Study Tours

Fully customised to meet the specific needs of each group, these tours are available to universities, high schools, corporations and government agencies. Students will stay together as a group and should have a similar level of English proficiency.These tours can run from four days to 12 weeks, are available throughout the academic year, and cater to a range of English proficiency levels. UWA CELT offers four Closed Study Tour options:

  • Australian Culture: Critical Thinking and Communication
  • English for Specific Purposes
  • TESOL Professional Development

UWA Experience

 Overview
An introduction to study at UWA, this tour builds academic readiness while immersing students in campus life. Tours can be tailored to discipline areas such as agriculture, engineering, law, medicine, and business.  As part of these tours, we can arrange visits to UWA Schools, lecture audits, student societies workshops, PhD candidate-led lectures and workshops, and selected industry visits.

Requirements
Available to tertiary level students  aged 18 and over, with a minimum English language requirement of IELTS 5.5.

Australian Culture: Critical Thinking & Communication

Overview
This tour introduces students to Australian culture while strengthening critical thinking and communication skills. Students examine how Australia is viewed globally, compare cultures, analyse arguments and apply reasoning in an Australian context.

Requirements
Available to high school and tertiary level students aged 15 and over, with no minimum English requirement.

English for Specific Purposes 

Overview
Designed for professionals, this tour focuses on clear and effective communication in workplace and public settings. Students will develop practical skills in organising ideas, proofreading and using conventions of professional writing through seminars and presentations.

Requirements
Designed for corporate clients and international interns, with a minimum English proficiency of IELTS 5.5.

TESOL Professional Development

Overview
This tour supports pre-service English language teachers to enhance their understanding of current teaching methodologies through lectures, workshops, and guided classroom observations. Students will apply new teaching strategies to their own classroom practices and gain insight into the methodologies used by experienced, native-speaker teachers.

Requirements
Available to pre-service, undergraduate English language teachers with a minimum English proficiency of IELTS 5.5.

Open Study Tours

Overview
These tours allow student groups join UWA CELT's existing English language programs alongside other international students. Students can choose from:

  • Language and Communication Essentials
  • English for Academic Purposes
  • IELTS Examination Preparation

Open Study Tours give students the opportunity to learn in a diverse, international classroom while developing their language skills and confidence.

Requirements
Available to to tertiary level students (18 years and above). These groups can have varying levels of English proficiency, as UWA CELT offers English language programs ranging from beginner to advanced levels.

Hybrid Study Tours

Overview
These tours combine Open and Closed formats to offer students a dynamic learning experience. Students join an open English language program in the morning and take part in a customised academic or cultural program in the afternoon. The afternoon program may include:

  •  Discipline-specific area with lecture audits (within UWA academic teaching weeks)
  •  PhD candidate lectures/workshops, and Student Society workshops (UWA Experience)
  • Cultural activities to enrich their experience (Australian Culture)
  • Research on a topic of interest, followed by an oral presentation to share findings (Research Project/ Project Work)
  • Development of a new product, exploring every stage of the development process, including strategy, design, testing, and product launch (Business and Professional English – New Product Development)
Requirements

Available to tertiary level students aged 18 and above, with no minimum English requirement.
