How to apply to UWA CELT
Your future starts here.There are different ways to apply, depending on your overall study goals.
UWA offers a range of English study options and pathways. Choose your study plan to see where to apply and what steps to follow.

1. English only at UWA CELT
If you are applying for:
- Language and Communication Essentials
- English for Academic Purposes
- IELTS Examination Preparation
You can submit your application with supporting documents directly to UWA CELT, or through an authorised education agent.
If you have not already taken an approved English language examination, we'll send you the UWA CELT online placement test. Complete the test on your own, following the instructions carefully. Your results will help us to determine your current English level and and place you in the right class when you arrive. Once you have completed the placement test, we will email your offer letter and acceptance documents. The offer letter will include an invoice for your course, and other applicable fees. To accept your offer:
- Pay all fees as outlined in your offer letter
- Return the signed acceptance documents to ask.uwa.edu.au/app/ask-celt

2. English as a pathway to a UWA degree
If you are applying for the Bridging Course as your English pathway to a UWA degree, apply online through the UWA Apply portal either directly or via an authorised agent.
You'll receive your outcome by email. If successful, you will receive a conditional letter of offer. Follow the steps in your offer email to accept through UWA Apply.

3. English as a pathway to UWA CollegeIf you are applying for Language and Communication Essentials as a pathway to UWA College, apply directly to UWA College.

5. If you are under 18 years of age
The application process does not change if you are under 18 years of age, however there are special policies and procedures you must follow. For more information, visit: Student Policies.
Students applying for UWA CELT must be over 18 years of age, with the following exceptions:
- You must be over 16 years and 9 months at the time your UWA CELT course starts if you are packaging with a UWA degree or WA TAFE program
- You must be over 16 years old when your UWA CELT course starts if you are packaging with UWA College + UWA degree
- You must be 17 years of age at the time your UWA CELT course starts if you are studying a stand-alone English course
English examinations recognised for entry into UWA CELT Programs
Before we issue your UWA CELT offer letter, we need to confirm your English level to place you in the right class. We accept the recognised examinations listed below as evidence of your current English level.
- Cambridge First Certificate in English
- Duolingo
- IELTS (Academic format)
- LANGUAGECERT Academic Test (LANGUAGECERT Academic)
- Michigan English Test (MET)
- Pearson Test of English (Academic)
- TOEFL iBT
If you have not completed one of these approved English language examinations, you can take the the UWA CELT online placement test.
