Career Pathways
Allied health professionals may choose to become credentialled diabetes educators through the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA).
You'll specialise in diabetes, including the role of social determinants in diabetes, education on new diabetes technologies, and training to address complex diabetes issues and health promotion, including appropriate diet and exercise recommendations.

Incidental fees: You will need to have a current working with children's check OR a police check in the last 12 months, you will need to have completed an approved / accredited vaccination training program and provide evidence of up to date vaccinations
All participants are expected to have completed vaccination training. Students may incur additional travel expenses associated with completing work-integrated learning activities under the supervision of their Designated Prescriber. Travel and other related costs for mandatory on-campus workshops and assessments will vary depending on individual circumstances and requirements.

Ranking and Selection Process
English competency
English is the language of instruction and assessment at UWA and you will need to meet the English language requirements of the University to be eligible for a place.
Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0.
How to apply
Course details
Diabetes Fundamentals is an assessment of existing knowledge with personal study using self-guided learning, curated resources within a period of 2 weeks. Diabetes Education takes place over 12 weeks with online readings, video lectures, tutorials, simulated placements, assessments, and an optional two-day in-person workshop in Perth. All students must undertake a 40 hour placements. These are held in our telehealth student clinic. Students must book all 5 days in the first week of the micro-credential.
Incidental fees : Any students who do not satisfactorily complete any booked placement day will be required to pay $150 for each additional day required. ADEA membership is required to access the ADEA Professional Practice module, which needs to be completed as part of PHCYN502. There is an optional resource pack that can be purchased for $150. ADEA membership and the ADEA Professional Practice Micro-Credential both have an associated fee. National Police Clearance is required to undertake this course. Professional Indemnity insurance is required per individual. Institutional indemnity insurance will not be accepted.
