The Environment Project 2025

In March 2025, LWAG hosted a fantastic art + science + culture day of experiential learning for students from Moorditj Noongar Community College.

Students began the day with a science workshop where they interacted with live insects, viewed specimens through microscopes and learnt about evolutionary biology, including influences of climate, landscape, and interrelationships with humans. In the afternoon, visual artist Sharyn Egan showed students how to make straw creatures whilst teaching about totems and cultural responsibilities, followed by a wonderful music, language and dance workshop in the Sunken Gardens with Rubeun Yorkshire and Clint Bracknell.

This program was supported by Friends of the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery funding and was a partnership of LWAG colleagues led by Curator of Academic and Public Programs, Dr Janice Lally, as well as UWA Environmental Biology scientists Dr Jen Kelley, Associate Professor Dr Joe Tomkins and Professor Jon Evans, with Noongar visual artist Sharyn Egan, actor and dancer Rubeun Yorkshire, a Noongar, Yamatji and Wangktha man, with Noongar man, UWA Professor of Music, Clint Bracknell.
