Birrundudu Drawings
In 1945, over a three-month period, sixteen Aboriginal men at Birrundudu Station created 810 crayon drawings depicting their extensive knowledge of Country, Ceremony and Ancestral narratives. Apart from a handful of drawings, most have never been seen. The exhibition is the result of four years of active re-engagement with descendants and communities connected to the original artists, who have helped bring the stories and cultural significance of these drawings back to life. The exhibition showcases more than 100 of these drawings and includes a contemporary response by artist Jimmy Tchooga.
Deanna Hitti is an Australian artist based in Melbourne with Lebanese heritage. Her multidisciplinary arts practice spans over 25 years and investigates representations of the Middle East through the lens of historical and cultural material.
Mezze uses culinary traditions as a lens through which to explore what it means to be Australian, both historically and in the present day.
Workshop participants will be admitted at 10am on Saturday 1 August.
On show at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery 31 July – 19 September 2026. The gallery is open Tuesday – Saturday, 11am-4pm. Entry is always free.
