Friday Talk: Same-sex handholding and the Song of Songs in the art of Simeon Solomon (1840–1905)

Friday 16 October, 1.00pm-2.00pm

Dr Duc Dau, an Honorary Research Fellow in English and Literary Studies at The University of Western Australia, will explore Solomon’s homoerotic religious art by focusing on the hand as the instrument associated with touch, and on touch as the sense associated with love.

Through visual echoes of handholding, Solomon demonstrates that love moves beyond the confines of heteronormativity and religious dogmatism to embrace heterogeneity and sacred homoeroticism.
