There are many great reasons to become a teacher: it’s a rewarding career where you can make a direct impact on people, and you’ll have strong job prospects with the opportunity to work all around the world.

But have you wondered whether primary or secondary school teaching is your calling? Well, now you don’t have to.

If you’re thinking of studying teaching in 2022 and already hold a bachelor’s degree, UWA's new Master of Teaching (F-12) course will qualify you to teach in both primary and secondary schools, maximising your future career opportunities.

This new course is also flexible, making it easier than ever to fit study into your life and gain a qualification to teach all levels from foundation (pre-primary) to Year 12.

It’s also ideal if you aren’t based in Perth or if you want to have wide-ranging career options. The Master of Teaching (F-12) is delivered mainly online, so you can study from anywhere with an internet connection. You’ll also benefit from international education experts who will present guest lectures from around the globe.

Not only does the course offer the flexibility to study from anywhere, you’ll get a taste of teaching across all year levels. This is a huge advantage if you want to work in schools that span wide age ranges, like many do in rural and regional Australia.

The course includes three intensive blocks (totalling 17 days) delivered at our stunning UWA Albany campus in the south west of WA. There, you’ll be able to meet your fellow teachers-in-training and interact with your lecturers face-to-face. Plus, why not take the opportunity to explore the beautiful Great Southern region while you’re there? And if you're thinking about whether COVID travel restrictions might mean you can’t make it to WA, online alternatives will be made available.

Your professional practice placements can be taken anywhere in Australia and we'll arrange for you to complete them at schools close to home. With 80 days of practice across primary and secondary schools under your belt, you’ll be well prepared to lead your own classroom after graduating.

The standard full-time duration of the course is 1.5 years, meaning you could be entering employment in schools before the end of 2023. But if you want to study part time to balance work, family or other commitments, you can take the course on a 2.5- or 3.5-year schedule. Either way, your units and placements will align closely with Australian school terms, so if you’re a parent, you can study while your kids are at school and be available to them in the holidays.

Whether you’re looking for a career change or seeking to enter a rewarding career after completing an undergraduate degree, the Master of Teaching (F-12) could be the answer. With the course commencing 31 January 2022, now’s the time to apply. Happy days!
