Painting today: Kevin Robertson in discussion with emerging artists

Friday 23 September, 1-2pm

Kevin Robertson leads a conversation with emerging artists Isabel Bereczky, Jacob Kotzee and Emily McGuire to discuss contemporary painting.

An extraordinary scope of painting practice is displayed in Kevin Robertson: Paintings 1984-2022 at the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery. Join the artist Dr Kevin Robertson who has both studied and taught painting at the tertiary level, as well as achieving national recognition for his work, through exhibitions, representation in major collections and receipt of significant awards, as he discusses the role of painting today with current art student Emily McGuire and recent graduates who are interested in painting as a medium. From the UWA School of Design – student Emily McGuire, and graduates from Curtin University - Isabel Bereczky and Jacob Kotzee, will explore with Dr Robertson questions such as ‘Where does the medium of painting fit into the current practice of artists and designers? Why is painting ongoing? Why is it continually reborn? What is its place in developments in art-making today?
