Exploring sustainable engineering practices
The Department of Civil, Environmental and Mining Engineering involves the study of three major areas of engineering. Civil engineering looks at the construction of major infrastructure; mining engineering examines the processes involved in extracting minerals from the earth; and environmental engineering studies sustainable practices.

We have fantastic, engaging lecturers and we're given a lot of flexibility with the units we study. There's so many different elective units so we can tailor the course to our own interests and career goals.

Our specialisations
Specialise in civil engineering
Civil engineering studies the design, construction and maintenance of major projects, such as roads, bridges, canals, harbours, dams and buildings. This specialisation covers geotechnical and earthquake engineering, structural engineering, surveying, construction and transport engineering.


Specialise in environmental engineering
This specialisation provides detailed advice on environmental management and design, ecological engineering and design, environmental modelling, contaminant fate and transport, hydrology, environmental fluid mechanics and more. You’ll gain the skills to use creative solutions for the environmental challenges facing our world.
Specialise in mining engineering
Mining engineering covers the processes used to extract minerals from the earth, including deposit evaluation, mine design, mine production and waste disposal. Specialising in this area will expose you to geology, finance and management, surface mining, underground mining, rock mechanics and mine design.

Interested in becoming a civil, environmental or mining engineer?
Complete any undergraduate bachelor’s degree at UWA with a major in Engineering Science, followed by the Master of Professional Engineering course, selecting either the Civil, Environmental or Mining Engineering specialisation.
