Dr Kate Hislop

Architect, academic and leader
Dr Kate Hislop is a registered architect and has been an academic at UWA for over 20 years.
As Dean and Head of the School of Design she is responsible for academic leadership across the disciplines of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Fine Arts and History of Art. She also teaches the Architecture program.
Kate is active in the wider architectural community. She is an examiner for the Architects Board of WA’s Architectural Practice Examination (APE), Chair of the National Assessment Panel for the Architecture Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA), and Convener of the 2020 Society of Architectural Historians, Australia and New Zealand (SAHANZ) Conference.

Kate is proud to lead a close-knit community at the UWA School of Design.

I enjoy teaching and mentoring students, helping them to prepare for careers related to architecture and the built environment. My teaching generally integrates both my research interests as well as my professional expertise.Dr Kate Hislop
Kate has received multiple awards and nominations for her teaching. She favours small group teaching to encourage effective student learning, engagement with ideas, and class rapport.
She currently teaches in the following Master of Architecture units: Kate has also been supervising PhD students for several years. She welcomes expressions of interest from prospective postgraduate students interested in architectural history, theory, design, pedagogy and professional practice.
