The UWA Fogarty Foundation Scholarship is a prestigious scholarship awarded to young people who use their skills, abilities, and commitment to lead positive change.
Hear from one of our Fogarty Foundation scholars, Elizabeth Knight, on her experience and journey at UWA.
Elizabeth was awarded the UWA Fogarty Foundation Scholarship in 2017, where she went on to study a Bachelor of Commerce, paving the way for her entrepreneurial career pathway and the launch of her own business whilst studying, Purposeful.
During high school, Elizabeth attended the Fogarty Futures Leadership Conference, which gave her the opportunity to make connections with Fogarty scholars, a network of “incredibly kind, compassionate and generous young people,” Elizabeth shares. This gave her the chance to reach out to them for advice throughout her application process.
Becoming a Fogarty scholar completely changed my life. I loved that the scholarship was not only about recognising your future potential as a leader, but also acknowledging the incredible value, passion, and insights that I had as a young person.”
Elizabeth Knight, Founder of Purposeful
Being a Fogarty scholar enabled Elizabeth to recognise and pursue her passions through being surrounded by a supportive, encouraging, and inspiring network and community of people. Connections that are life-long and global.
“It has been really special to see the students who were once my peers become leaders within their chosen industries, and have a remarkable impact in the areas they are passionate about,” Elizabeth shares.
The first ever workshop I facilitated for my business Purposeful, was at a Fogarty Foundation event, and when I took the leap to start my business, the Fogarty Foundation were there to support me through invaluable connections, funding and support.”
“Be authentic and be prepared” is Elizabeth’s main piece of advice for students considering applying for the UWA Fogarty Foundation Scholarship. She recommends for students to “consider the leader that you one day want to become, and what you would do if you had a platform and the support of the Fogarty Foundation Scholarship.”
