Northam

Northam is the gateway to the Avon Valley and Wheatbelt region and is famous for its thriving hot air balloon community and ever-popular sunrise flights. Its diverse range of tourist and heritage attractions means there is plenty to do and see between study and clinical work - be it wildflowers, horse racing, cultural tours or nature and adventure trails. Northam has a warm and welcoming community and the RCSWA team looks forward to meeting you.

The Northam RCSWA site was established back in 2014. The office is located in the heart of town, with students having 24/7, individual student hubs, internet and their very own medical library.

  • Accommodation and Transport

The Northam RCSWA student residence is located adjacent to the Northam Country Club, the local hub for golf, tennis and squash. It is a short distance from the Northam Recreation Centre which is home to netball, basketball, football and indoor hockey. The Northam Aquatic Facility neighbours the recreation centre and is popular during our warm summer months.

The house is a fully furnished four-bedroom, two-bathroom property with an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge, along with access to WIFI. The house has a welcoming garden and a small secluded outdoor area with BBQ and outdoor setting. Parking is available for four vehicles at the house and there are bikes available for recreational use.

  • Health Services

Northam is well served by medical services and the RCSWA has a close working relationship with Northam Family Practice and Grey Street Surgery, who are actively involved with the teaching of our medical students.

The Northam Health Campus contains an emergency department, medical ward, two theatres, midwifery group practice, cancer care, palliative care, medical imaging, pathology services, and outpatient department. Population health services are provided by Avon and Central Wheatbelt Primary Health Service.

  • Extra Activities

Fun things to do in Northam include self-guided historical tours, hot air ballooning and gliding, visiting the Northam Heritage Centre and exploring surrounding parks and trails.

Northam also has an extensive range of social and competitive sporting clubs – athletics, basketball, BMX, bowls, cricket, football, golf, hockey, show-jumping, netball, squash, swimming and karate.

Northam Visitors Centre is a great place to start if you want more information about the local attractions in town.
