The University of Western Australia’s second annual Internationalisation Week for staff and students kicked off with a celebration of culture, connection and global engagement.
Running from September 22 to 26 and hosted by UWA’s Global Engagement Office, Internationalisation Week showcases UWA’s international outlook and commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive and globally connected community.
Events include cultural celebrations, community festivals, staff information sessions, global careers opportunities and wellbeing activities — creating opportunities to engage, collaborate and celebrate together.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience) Professor Guy Littlefair opened proceedings and reflected on the importance of international engagement for the UWA community.
The launch also featured a colourful Flag Parade, representing the diversity of UWA’s community, alongside student-led performances from the Association of Indonesian Postgraduate Students and Scholars in Australia (AIPSSA) and the Sanskriti Association for Indian Culture and Student Support.
Professor Littlefair said Internationalisation Week highlighted the positive impact of international engagement across the UWA community.
“Internationalisation Week is a celebration of the richness of our global community and the connections that make UWA truly international,” Professor Littlefair said.
“It’s also an important opportunity to bring our students together, particularly our international students, to feel included, share their cultures, and experience the diversity that makes UWA such a vibrant and welcoming place to study and work.”
Nashid Chowdhury, Director of Global Growth and Advocacy: Principal Lead India and MC for the launch, said the establishment of branch campuses in India was an historic milestone and bold step in UWA’s global journey.
“Events such as Internationalisation Week highlight the opportunities and impact that international engagement brings to our community,” Ms Chowdhury said.
“They prepare our students to thrive in a globalised world, while celebrating the diversity that defines UWA. Looking ahead, the week symbolises UWA’s commitment to future growth, deeper partnerships and a stronger, more connected campus experience for every student.”
The program is the result of collaboration across UWA, with departments, student associations and partners working together to celebrate international education and global engagement.
