In honour of Elizabeth Pearce and her love of the ocean, Elizabeth’s family and The University of Western Australia have established the Elizabeth Pearce Marine Science Fund.

Hosted by the UWA Oceans Institute, the fund provides a deeply meaningful legacy to support students who share Elizabeth’s passion for marine sciences.

Elizabeth Pearce

Elizabeth was set to graduate from UWA later this year with a master’s degree in marine biology.

In her memory, each year the Elizabeth Pearce Marine Science Fund will provide financial assistance for two students enrolled in the Master of Marine Biology program to travel to and attend the annual Australian Marine Sciences Association (AMSA) conference.

This opportunity is a significant stepping stone, offering award recipients a national forum to present their research in marine biology, and opening up potential collaborations, internships and future career pathways.

The awards will be granted to the two highest-achieving students enrolled in the UWA Master of Marine Biology program who submit a research thesis.

Associate Professor Tim Langlois, who was Elizabeth’s project supervisor, said the opportunity reflected Elizabeth’s maturity and ambition, as she understood the importance of making connections and forging new collaborations.

To date, $46,000 has been raised for the Elizabeth Pearce Marine Science Fund, through the generous support of Elizabeth’s family, friends and community.

Elizabeth’s parents, Andrew and Tracey Pearce, and The University of Western Australia, invite you to join them in honouring Elizabeth’s memory by making a donation to the Elizabeth Pearce Marine Science Fund here. All donations above $2 are tax-deductible.

Please note that the Pearce family will not be commenting and any media queries should be directed to [email protected]
