Associate Professor Nathan Hart is an expert in comparative neurobiology of the retina. He did his PhD on colour vision in birds at the University of Bristol, UK. He moved to Australia in 1999 and ever since has been working on the visual systems of all the main vertebrate groups, including: hagfish, lampreys, teleost fish, rays, sharks, lizards, snakes, birds, marsupial and placental mammals. Most recently he has been looking at the ability of elasmobranchs to see colour. The main thrust of his research is to understand what natural selection pressures drive adaptation in (and thus evolution of) the visual system.
