When you’re not studying, Perth has plenty of exciting places to explore and enjoy. Sport in the city

If you love sports, the city now has a new state-of-the-art Optus Stadium just outside the city centre, where live AFL and rugby games are played regularly. The WACA cricket ground hosts some of the most prestigious games on the tour’s calendar, and Perth Arena is home to the state’s thriving basketball scene, as well as international tennis tournaments.

Endless outdoor adventure

With nearly 300 days of sunshine a year, it’s no surprise that outdoor activities are popular in Perth. On the river, you can find every type of tour imaginable, from stand-up paddleboarding yoga and kayaking, to wine tours, fast ferries, sailing and much more. Head to the beach and learn to surf, or go diving and see some of the native oceanic flora and fauna up-close. There are dolphin, penguin and seal-watching tours, as well as whale-watching from September to December. Perth’s beautiful parks are open year-round and free to enter, with many hosting various events, especially during wildflower season.
