Why UWA?

Choosing which university to study at is a big decision, especially as an international student moving to a new country. For Alina it was all about finding a university that could open doors to life-changing career opportunities, and a city that felt like the perfect place to call home, both during and after completing her studies!

“One of the reasons I chose to study at UWA was because it’s ranked in the world’s top 50 universities for Environmental Science, which I thought would benefit both my career and learning experience. Secondly, I also loved the location. Perth is located right next to the ocean, the Swan River and is surrounded by national parks and nature. Plus, it’s really pleasant place to live – so peaceful!”

What Alina loves most about Perth and UWA

One of Alina’s favourite things about Perth is how welcoming and multicultural it is, with so many new things to do and experience whilst studying at UWA.

“Perth is very multicultural city, so you can meet people from everywhere around the world! This means you quite often get to talk with people that normally you would not meet and try different foods you wouldn't normally get to try.

There is so much to do such as clubs to join, volunteering opportunities, free activities depending on your interest and other enriching things!”

Life since UWA

Since graduating from UWA, Alina has launched a rewarding career with the Western Australian Government. She’s applying the skills she gained during her studies at UWA and continuing to learn and grow.

“I’ve started working at the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation as Environmental Officer. My role focuses on establishing regulations so that companies can carry out their activities whilst protecting the environment.

What I enjoy most about this role is that it allows me to use the skills that I learned during my degree at UWA, as well as my previous experience. On top of that, I’m consistently growing and gaining more skills.”
