Meet Dylan
Hi, I’m Dylan. I am a third-year student, studying Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Relations and Management at UWA.
I’m from Singapore and first came to Perth in 2016 for my high school education. In 2017, I went back to my home country to complete my mandatory National Service with the Army. I started my studies at UWA online from Singapore in 2020 and moved back to Australia in 2022 to continue my undergraduate degree at UWA.
Why did you choose to study at UWA?
I went to a UWA Open Day in 2017 and I loved the campus environment. It felt so different from all the other universities here. Price, courses, rankings and scholarships were all important decision factors that helped me choose UWA.UWA had a course I wanted to study, Political Science and International Relations, which made it a good choice!
What do you enjoy most about studying at UWA?
The weather and the lifestyle in Perth are different from my home country. There are so many places to visit and things to do outdoors such as camping and fishing. Also, I love experiencing a new culture.What impact did receiving a scholarship to study at UWA as an international student have for you?
I received the UWA Global Excellence Scholarship which included $5,000 a year discount on my fees.This helped both my family and myself financially. Before I found out about the scholarship, I was really stressed about my family being able to afford the fees of studying at university. Having the Global Excellence Scholarship took the stress off and allowed me to focus on my education.
What was the application process like for the Global Excellence Scholarship?
The Global Excellence Scholarship was automatically awarded to me by UWA with my offer letter, so it was very easy. I also applied to UWA through a study agent who aided me through the whole application process.Is there any advice you would give to a future student considering UWA?
Make lots of friends through events to expand your support system. Also, make sure you take time off studying to explore the other parts of Perth besides the city and the areas around the university as they are amazing!What are your plans for when you graduate from UWA?
Hopefully, I will be able to stay here in Perth and find a job or study a post-graduate course in a relevant field! I also hope to explore Australia a little more as well.
