Engineering student Stephanie Cabrera Saldana is not only pursuing her career interests at UWA, but also her passion for social good.
Now in her fourth year of economics and chemical engineering, Steph has devoted her time to several clubs and social initiatives throughout her studies at UWA.

As a member of Women in Engineering and Mathematical Sciences UWA (WiEMS), Steph works to create an inclusive culture for female-identifying students in engineering and mathematical sciences. WiEMS is building a diverse and supportive community at UWA, as well as connections to industry through networking and social events.

Stephanie has also previously volunteered her time to the UWA Spanish Speaking Club, offering up some lessons in her native tongue. Despite being the second most-spoken language in the world, UWA is the only university in Western Australia to offer Spanish Studies. Excelente noticias!

Steph is Local Partnerships and Initiatives Coordinator for Engineers Without Borders (EWB) UWA, a proactive student-run chapter of EWB Australia. EWB is a non-for-profit organisation that creates social value through human-centred engineering, like lifting people out of poverty by providing access to clean water and sanitation, housing, clean energy, digital access and education initiatives.

“I believe that giving back to the community is very important. Studying at UWA has offered me the opportunity to meet great people and network with industry, and it’s also allowed me to volunteer for not-for-profits that promote empowerment, equality, and inclusion.” — Steph Cabrera Saldana
