Dr Amin Mugera

Understanding the drivers of farm profitability, productivity and efficiency allows us to design public policies that use resources well and improve the welfare of people in the rural economy.Dr. Amin Mugera

Dr Amin Mugera’s research is at the intersection of agricultural economics, development economics, and agribusiness. Dr Mugera’s research addresses policy issues in agricultural development using a combination of mathematical programming and econometric methods. He has used farm household-level data to investigate drivers of farm labour productivity and farm profitability in the United States, the effect of farm debt on managerial performance of broadacre farms in Western Australia, and groundwater use efficiency of smallholder producers in Punjab, Pakistan. Dr Mugera is currently working on a project to develop the capacity of Early Career Researchers in sub-Saharan Africa to conduct empirical research and produce evidence-based policies to address productivity related challenges in the agricultural sector. Dr Mugera’s research has been published in prominent peer-reviewed journals including the American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Productivity Analysis, Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Hydrology: Regional Studies, and Food Policy among others.
