WASO In Conversation | Elena Kats-Chernin AO

Bringing together the highest quality music education with some of the State’s most talented and experienced professional musicians, we are proud to continue our Tertiary Education Partnership with WASO in 2022.

In this series, members and guest artists of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra share an evening with the community discussing aspects of their performance / composition practice, preparation, and career highlights.
In the final instalment of our WASO In Conversation series for 2022, celebrated Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin sits down with fellow composer and UWA Chair of Composition, James Ledger, to talk about her life and her work. Guests will enjoy a unique opportunity to hear all about Ave Maria, which will receive its world premiere with WASO on 7 October.

Elena Kats-Chernin AO is a Sydney based Australian composer. Her music featured at the opening ceremonies of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and the 2003 Rugby World Cup. She has received several awards including Sounds Australian, Helpmann, Limelight and Sydney Theatre Awards as well as the Sidney Myer Performing Arts Award 2013.  She was awarded Australian Women in Music Award for the Artistic Excellence in May 2022.
