UWA’s Electronic Music and Sound Design program combines hands-on experience with cutting-edge tools and techniques, preparing graduates for diverse careers in the evolving field of electronic music.
The weekly forum features leading music industry guests, artist talks and discussions. Also including Analysis sessions – where students can share, discuss and showcase their current work or a work that inspires them. The presentations will provide musical analysis with respect to harmony, rhythm, melody, style and production. These sessions are a must to refine and develop production and composition skills.

MiXD Trackshare
Our first EMSD forum for the year will provide students with the opportunity to share tracks they have produced or are working on over the summer and receive feedback and tips on their composition techniques, mixes, and more.

Music Analysis with Dr Chris Tonkin
Frank Bretschneider - Go! Said the Bird (from the album Looping, 2004)
Chris will present an analysis of Bretschneider’s composition Go! Said the Bird from his 2004 album Looping. The analysis will focus particularly on rhythmic aspects, examining the complex structures and textures Bretschneider creates through layered polyrhythmic loops and the use of delay.

Owen will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing Western Australia’s contemporary music scene, including for artists, live music venues, and the broader industry. He will discuss how WAM can support the scene, how we can create more local music industry jobs, and how WAM’s advocacy can ensure music continues to be the powerhouse of the arts in Western Australia.
