Dr Daniel Juckes is a writer, editor, teacher and researcher in the disciplines of Creative Writing and English and Literary Studies at the UWA School of Humanities. His interest lies in hybrid writing forms, and ways of writing and conceiving the past.
Born in the United Kingdom, Dr Juckes moved to Australia at the age of fifteen. He studied at the University of Notre Dame (Fremantle) and Curtin University, before moving to UWA to work at Westerly magazine, shortly after which he secured a role teaching English and Literary Studies and Creative Writing. Dr Juckes has worked in bookshops for much of his adult life, and has always been passionate about reading and writing.
Dr Juckes’ current projects include a manuscript called As with everything else the end eventually comes which is inspired by his PhD. He is also working on collaborative research articles reflecting on the use of the archive within practice-led research and on the essay form as mirror of experience.
Dr Juckes also currently teaches units in ENGL1501 Reading Creatively/Writing Creatively, ENGL2501 Creative Writing and ENGL4103 Studies in Creative Writing and is producing his first Westerly publication as Associate Editor. Together, these projects seek to further creative writing and creative writing scholarship in Western Australia and help bridge the gap between the academy and the general reader.
Dr Juckes takes pride in the opportunity to work across a range of spaces at the coalface of creative writing and creative writing scholarship, whether in the classroom, at Westerly magazine, or on his own writing and research.
Dr Juckes has received funding from the Australian Postgraduate Award and a Curtin University Research Scholarship.
