Bringing students’ ideas to life

I really love seeing students’ ideas come to life from a drawing or an idea to a physical object. It’s great to be part of that process and help students realise their vision.David Marie

David Marie is a workshop technician at the UWA School of Design, with a background in the building and construction industry. A shopfitter by trade, he also works as a freelance illustrator.

In the School of Design workshop, David works with students in disciplines ranging from architecture to fine arts, operating laser cutters and other equipment for their projects. He is currently upskilling on Autodesk Inventor and Fusion 360 software.

“This is a really exciting piece of workshop equipment and opens up endless possibilities for student design and manufacturing,” he said.

“I enjoy seeing and discussing the clever designs students come up with and the ideas behind them. And I love seeing the finished work at exhibition time.”
