Students from The University of Western Australia will take to the streets of Perth this week as PROSH celebrates its 95th year, continuing one of Western Australia’s largest student-led charity traditions.
What began in 1931 as a bold student publication has grown into a one-day charity event that has raised more than $2 million for local not-for-profit organisations.
The satirical newspaper and annual street fundraising initiative is written, designed and sold entirely by volunteers. In the lead-up to the event students hosted quizzes, writers’ nights and the annual PROSHlympics to plan the paper and engage fundraising teams.

Funds raised in 2026 will support On My Feet, a shelter-to-self-sufficiency program assisting people at risk of or experiencing homelessness; and Perth Homeless Support Group, which provides food services, outreach, personal care and transitional housing support across the city.
The PROSH committee has connected directly with this year's beneficiaries by attending a group strength training workshop hosted by On My Feet for people experiencing homeless or financial hardship.
It was an opportunity for students to speak directly with people who have successfully participated in fitness programs and to see firsthand how the funds raised will have a direct impact.
Following the event, the PROSH committee will volunteer with Perth Homeless Support Group – an opportunity to reflect on the ethos 'always for charity'.
UWA Student Guild President Oliver Barrett said each year it was incredible to see the energy and enthusiasm our students brought to PROSH.
“From first-year students getting involved for the first time, to older students coming back to run PROSH, to alumni eagerly awaiting buying their newspaper, this is a tradition built by the people who care about it,” he said.
“Over the years, it has become undoubtedly one of UWA’s most longstanding and beloved traditions.”
This year’s theme, PROSHtunes, encourages teams to dress as their favourite music genres, eras or artists while collecting donations.
On Wednesday 18 March, students will arrive on campus at 5am before heading to locations across the Perth CBD, Northbridge, Subiaco, Leederville, Mount Lawley, Claremont, Nedlands, Victoria Park, Fremantle, South Perth, Cottesloe and Applecross to sell copies of PROSH from 7am to 10am.
PROSH can be purchased via cash or EFTPOS on the day, with digital editions available online following the event. For more information about fundraising locations, charity information, online donation links and merchandise visit the website.
