How generative artificial intelligence is reshaping education, government and law enforcement will be explored at a free public lecture hosted by The University of Western Australia next week.
From Photoshop to Public Safety: Navigating AI's Opportunities and Risks, presented by the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and the Institute of Advanced Studies at UWA, will be held on Monday 17 August.
Keynote speaker John Penn II, a senior architect for law enforcement technologies at Adobe, brings a unique perspective spanning technological innovation, digital forensics, content authenticity, and child protection.
Mr Penn is a recognised leader in digital trust and public safety with more than 40 years of experience in software development, including 25 years at Adobe contributing to products such as Photoshop.
Amy Murray, Senior Advisor Educational Initiatives for Office of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic), said the lecture would explore timely topics including generative AI, digital trust, misinformation, content authenticity, digital evidence, governance frameworks and responsible AI adoption.
“The session will explore how technologies developed to combat online exploitation and misinformation can inform responsible AI use in education and beyond, and what organisations can do today to prepare for an AI-enabled future,” Ms Murray said.
Drawing on his work with governments, educational institutions, and initiatives such as Adobe's Content Authenticity Initiative, Mr Penn will examine the opportunities and risks associated with AI adoption including ethical decision-making, governance frameworks, misinformation, digital evidence and the growing importance of trust in digital environments.
“This public talk will be of interest to students, educators, researchers, policy professionals, technologists and anyone seeking to better understand the societal implications of AI,” Ms Murray said.
