Student athletes selected in the UWA Maali team to compete in the 2025 UniSport Australia Nationals competition, have been presented with their playing jerseys in a ceremony held at the Neil Donaldson Pavilion on Friday 19 September.

The teams were led in a Welcome to Country by Noongar Elder Barry Winmar, who welcomed the players to Noongar land and wished them a safe return on their travels around the country.

2025 UWA Maali Team Captain, Jaime Cole, then shared the story of the black swan as told by Noongar Elder Neville Collard, which served as the inspiration for the Maali jersey design created by Aaron "Jungari" Sutton.

Jerseys were then presented to all travelling teams and the team captains announced, before proceeding outside to participate in a smoking ceremony.

This year, the UWA Maali team will be travelling to the Gold Coast, Queensland to compete against 6000 student athletes, staff and volunteers from over 32 universities across the nation on Monday 27 September for a week-long competition.

UniSport Nationals provide an opportunity for students at our 42 member universities from across Australia to compete head to head in a number of national standard sporting competitions.

Nationals are comprised of the flagship event, UniSport Nationals, and a number of standalone national championships throughout the year. The winners from each sport in UniSport Nationals will be combined with the winners of the various Nationals Championships throughout the year to name one university the Overall Nationals Champions.

UniSport Australia Nationals  fixtures will be published in due course by UniSport Australia. Find out more about UniSport Australia Nationals here.
