Huge quad road trains, WA Police’s latest highway patrol car, a mobile drug and alcohol testing vehicle and a helicopter – along with The University of Western Australia’s driving simulator vehicle – were among a raft of attractions at today’s Road Safety Field Day.
Hosted by UWA, the field day kicked off the 2025 Australasian Road Safety Conference, launched by WA Minister for Road Safety, the Hon Reece Whitby MLA.
The four-day international conference runs at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth from today to Thursday 23 October 2025, with more than 600 delegates from across Australasia and overseas expected to attend.
Joining Minister Whitby at UWA today were Teresa Williams, President of the Australasian College of Road Safety (ACRS); Professor Teresa Senserrick, Director of the WA Centre for Road Safety Research at UWA; and Chair of the WA Road Safety Council, Katie Hodson-Thomas.
The field day, a free community event designed to raise awareness of road safety initiatives and innovations, featured a combined interactive exhibition that brought together UWA researchers from WA’s Road Safety Research Centre, WA Government agencies, emergency services, and leading transport industry partners.
Jointly hosted by the Australasian College of Road Safety and Austroads, the Australasian Road Safety Conference is the world’s biggest annual gathering for road safety professionals, researchers, and advocates. This year’s conference will focus on evidence-based approaches, knowledge sharing, and collaboration to reduce deaths and serious injuries on our roads.
