Members of UWA Sport's Leagues Teams, the UWA Maali, have been presented with their playing jerseys in a ceremony held at the Neil Donaldson Pavilion on Wednesday morning.

The teams were led in a Welcome to Country by Noongar Elder Barry Winmar, who welcomed the players to Noongar land and wished them a safe return on their travels around the country. 2025 UBL Women's Captain, Jenna Teasdale, then shared the story of the black swan as told by Noongar Elder Neville Collard, which served as the inspiration for the Maali jersey design created by Aaron "Jungari" Sutton. 

Jerseys were then presented to both the UWA Basketball League and University Tennis League teams and the team captains announced, before proceeding outside to participate in a smoking ceremony.

The University Basketball League (UBL) is returning for its fifth season in 2025, with twelve teams from universities across Australia coming together for an 8-week series to determine the top basketball university in Australia.

The UWA Maali will commence the UBL season on Wednesday 6 August with matches against Federation University at the UWA Recreation and Fitness Centre. Admission is free and all are encouraged to come along and cheer on the UWA Maali. 

The University Tennis League (UTL) is returning for its second season in 2025, with the UWA Maali seeking to maintain their ranking as first in the Western Conference, and to eke out The University of Sydney for first place overall.
